Installation and Use

Virtual Panel Launcher: Getting Started

Install the app once, then use it to open supported RTI Virtual Panel files on an Intel Mac. This guide walks through the complete process and explains what to do when Parallels or another app opens first.

01

Before you begin

Confirm the Mac and the panel are within the current support boundary before installing the app.

  • Use an Intel Mac. Version 1.0.1 is not qualified for panel execution on Apple Silicon Macs.
  • Use a genuine RTI Virtual Panel export. An Integration Designer project, software installer, or unrelated Windows program will not open in the launcher.
  • Work from an authorized panel. The dealer and customer remain responsible for RTI licensing, processor access, system targets, and the commands available in the panel.
Exact qualified configuration

The documented version 1.0.1 qualification uses an Intel x86_64 Mac running macOS 26.5.2 build 25F84. Other Intel Mac configurations may work, but they are outside that exact qualification record.

02

Install the app

  1. Download the current DMG.

Use the download on this page or the product page. Version 1.0.1 is signed and notarized for macOS.

  2. Open the downloaded DMG.

Finder will mount the installer and show Virtual Panel Launcher.

  3. Place the app in Applications.

Drag Virtual Panel Launcher into the Applications folder. Run the installed copy from Applications, not a copy left inside the DMG or another temporary folder.

  4. Eject the DMG and open the app.

The first launch may take a little longer while macOS verifies the app. A normal installation should not require bypassing Gatekeeper or changing Mac security settings.

03

Open an RTI Virtual Panel

You can open a supported panel in any of these three ways:

Recommended

Open Panel

Launch Virtual Panel Launcher, select Open Panel, and choose the dealer-supplied .exe file.

Fast

Drag and drop

Drag the panel onto the open launcher window or onto Virtual Panel Launcher in the Applications folder or Dock.

Finder

Open With

Control-click the panel in Finder, choose Open With, then choose Virtual Panel Launcher.

If double-clicking opens Parallels

That is normal when Parallels is your Mac’s default app for Windows executables. Virtual Panel Launcher deliberately does not take over every .exe file. Use Open Panel, drag and drop, or Finder’s Open With command for an RTI panel.

Changing the default app for .exe files would affect installers and every other Windows program too, so it is usually better to leave the general association alone.

04

Review the trust prompt

Before a new panel runs, the launcher checks that it appears to be a supported RTI Virtual Panel and displays its identity and SHA-256 fingerprint. Review the file name and source before choosing to trust it.

  • Trust a panel only when you know which dealer or project supplied it.
  • Trust applies to the exact file contents, not merely the file name.
  • If the dealer exports an updated panel, its fingerprint changes and the launcher asks again. That is expected.
  • A valid identity check does not change what the panel can control. Its programmed system connections and commands still matter.

05

While the panel is running

The launcher starts and supervises the panel through its included compatibility runtime. If the panel window moves behind another app, use Return to Panel in the launcher. Use Close Panel when you are finished.

The launcher does not redirect or collect the panel’s network traffic. Any processor address, credentials, and control commands come from the panel supplied by the dealer. An Internet connection is not required by the launcher during normal use, although the RTI panel may need access to its programmed network destination.

06

Troubleshooting

Parallels opens instead of Virtual Panel Launcher

Use Open Panel inside the launcher, drag the panel onto the app, or Control-click the panel and choose Open With. The launcher is an alternate RTI-specific opener, so Parallels may remain the normal double-click choice for general .exe files.

The managed launcher service is unavailable

Quit the app. Move any incomplete or older copy of Virtual Panel Launcher to the Trash, reinstall the official signed DMG, and run the fresh copy from the Applications folder. Do not run the app from inside the mounted DMG. If the message returns, contact support with the launcher version and exact error code.

The app refuses the file

Confirm that the file is an RTI Virtual Panel export, not an installer, Integration Designer project, or other Windows application. Ask the RTI dealer for a fresh Virtual Panel export if the file is damaged or uses an unsupported format.

The app asks me to trust the panel again

Compare the fingerprint with the file you expected. A new dealer export changes the fingerprint even when the filename stays the same. Approve it only after confirming the source of the update.

I see both old and current launcher names in Open With

Keep the current Virtual Panel Launcher in Applications, move the old app version to the Trash, and restart Finder or the Mac. If the old entry remains, it is a stale Finder registration and does not change the installed current version.

The panel does not connect to the RTI system

Confirm that the Mac can reach the system network and that the panel was exported with the correct target. The launcher opens the supplied panel but does not change its RTI programming, processor address, permissions, or credentials.

I have an Apple Silicon Mac

Version 1.0.1 does not claim qualified panel execution on Apple Silicon. Contact Victory before relying on it for that hardware.

Get support

If the problem continues after reinstalling the current version, collect the following details before contacting support:

  • Mac model and whether it is Intel or Apple Silicon
  • macOS version and build number
  • Virtual Panel Launcher version
  • The panel filename and fingerprint shown by the launcher
  • The exact error message or diagnostics summary
Protect the customer’s information

Do not attach the panel executable, Integration Designer project, passwords, customer credentials, or raw logs to the first support message. Send those only through an approved support channel when they are specifically requested.
